the director of “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2” on Akshay, Vidya’s guest; “I wish there was range”

Mumbai, 26th April (PTI) Filmmaker Anees Bazmee has said that the script for ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ does not offer any opportunity to feature special appearances from Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan, the stars of the original horror comedy .

Bazmee took over the responsibility of directing the sequel from filmmaker Priyadarshan, who helmed the 2007 original.

“Bhool Bhulaiyaa”, which became a blockbuster upon its release, starred Kumar as a psychiatrist investigating a haunted mansion while Balan played Avni Chaturvedi, the archaeologist wife of Shiney Ahuja’s Siddharth Narayan Chaturvedi.

The creators unveiled the highly-anticipated trailer for the sequel on Tuesday, which is headlined by actors Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, and Tabu.

Bazmee said the film featured an all-new cast except for actor Rajpal Yadav, who also starred in the original as a priest named Chhote Pandit.

“I would have liked there to be a possibility of having both of them (Akshay and Vidya) in the film as guests. It would have naturally benefited us but the script did not give us this opportunity. they were together in this film, it would have been a happy occasion. For this film, we worked on a different screenplay.

“Except Rajpal Yadav, everyone is new. If they were in the movie, it would have been nice… But once you watch them all, you’ll feel ‘ek tarah se theek he hua’ (d’ in a way is good). We tried to make a different movie,” he told reporters.

The director, known for comedies like ‘Welcome’ and ‘Singh is Kinng’, said he felt the pressure to step into the world of ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ as the film still enjoys a devoted following.

What helped Bazmee get started on the sequel was the screenplay, written by Farhad Samji and Aakash Kaushik.

“The first movie got a lot of love. When the producers asked me to come on board for the sequel, I was understandably tense as a director. But it was fantastic. When you do a sequel, the problem is that it shouldn’t be exactly like the first part but also shouldn’t differ too much from the movie universe.

“It’s a thin line. You have to make a movie that gives you a taste of the first movie and yet is new. That’s exactly what we tried to do,” he added.

“Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2” is set to be released on May 20. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Murad Khetani and Krishan Kumar under the banners of T-Series and Cine 1 Studios. PTI JUR RB
