It’s no secret that content-driven cinema is the new black. In a time full of gripping stories, Shareen Mantri Kedia and Kishor Arora’s Namah Pictures have delivered two critically acclaimed back-to-back films with impactful storylines.
Written and directed by Oscar-nominated Majid Majidi, the 2017 drama Beyond the Clouds was Namah Pictures’ foray into feature films. With cast member Ishan Khatter, Beyond The Clouds, Shareen Mantri Kedia has become the only Indian producer to work with an internationally renowned director.
Shortly after, Namah Pictures delivered the extraordinary story of Anandi Gopal which traces the journey of India’s first lady doctor and the man behind her. It’s this critics’ favorite that has now earned the producer the coveted National Film Awards for Best Film About Other Social Issues and Best Production Design. One of the highest grossing films in the Marathi film industry, the film was the biggest overseas Marathi film of 2019. With this film, Shareen Mantri Kedia and Kishor Arora not only proved their mettle in the art of production, but also showed their talent for understanding the potential of content beyond language. Given today’s glocal scene in the movie world, we all know how important it is to master the power to break the language barrier!
Speaking about the win, Shareen Mantri Kedia said, “Kishor and I are thrilled to receive two National Film Awards. Anandi Gopal is a fascinating story that deserved to be told. As the narrators of Anandi Gopal’s story, we are happy that the film is recognized, not only in India, but all over the world! We made this film with great love and dedication and are happy to see our labor of love receiving such love and respect.
With an interesting line-up of content lined up, ongoing projects from Namah Pictures include emotional thriller LOST, starring Kartik Aryan in collaboration with Sajid Nadiadwala, and biopic about legendary Indian bandit queen Phoolan Devi.
