Marvel’s Jeremy Renner to Direct Opioid Crisis Drama

avengers Actor Jeremy Renner is set to play investigative journalist David Armstrong in a film about the opioid crisis.

A Pulitzer Prize winner, Armstrong helped unravel the Sackler family and Purdue Pharma’s involvement in widespread addiction to the painkiller OxyContin across the United States, which is linked to more than 200,000 deaths.

According to Deadlinehusband and wife duo Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly (bowling) perform editorial and management functions.

“The real David Armstrong is a man of extreme integrity,” the married filmmakers said in a statement.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Jeremy on board to infuse the same integrity into his portrayal of David. We’re thrilled to be working with such a great team to bring this story to a global audience.”

The journalist himself went on to admit that he was “satisfied that a cinema audience is discovering the story of this crisis, which has ruined so many lives”.

“I am impressed with the vision Gita and Aron have for making this film and thrilled that an actor of Jeremy’s talent and ability will play a major role in telling this story.”

101 Studios CEO David C Glasser was particularly impressed with Renner’s powerful acting skills while directing TV drama Mayor of Kingstownwhich was recently renewed for season 2.
