Jax Jones wows the crowd – with a special Pikachu appearance

Jax Jones pulled out all the stops during his eccentric set at BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend in Coventry. He was even joined by surprise guest MNEK and four Pikachus.

He sat down with Coventry Live reporter Claire Harrison after his performance to talk about Big Weekend, the Coventry crowd and his performance.

He said: “They were great, I also gave a special shout out to the city. It was sick, it was really cool.

“Big Weekend is always amazing because it’s such a unique show to have smaller towns, all these people in their towns, so they’re really into it. It’s something I’m looking forward to.

“I started a new show this year, with new versions of my tracks. I’ve been putting out big tracks for about seven years, so I had to revamp it. I was nervous about it, but he was well received.”

He was joined on stage by MNEK for their song Where Did You Go? and also bragged about guest appearances by Pikachu. Explaining why Pokémon joined him on stage, he said: “It’s just me flexing, I can call Pikachu to pass. I’m a huge fan, I grew up on Pokémon and Where Did You Go? is an ode to things that I love so it was really amazing that Pikachu came along and did it.”
