Drama veteran, movie star Suhail Asghar has died

ISLAMABAD – Suhail Asghar, veteran actor and senior entertainer in Pakistan’s drama industry, died on Saturday after a long illness. The actor’s death was confirmed by his family, Sohail Asghar’s wife said Sohail Asghar had been ill for a year and a half.

Lead actor Sohail Asghar underwent gastric surgery a year and a half ago due to which he fell seriously ill, she added. His funeral prayers will be held today (Sunday) in Bahria town of Karachi, his wife said, private news channels reported.

Suhail Asghar was born in Lahore and completed his education there after which he became a member of Radio Pakistan. From 1978 to 1988, Sohail Asghar worked as a radio jockey for 10 years, after which he started acting in plays. He acted in dramas like ‘Laag’, ‘Piyas’, ‘Chand Girhan’ and ‘Kajal Ghar’ in his career. He made his debut in the film industry in 2003 with the film ‘Murad’. In 2004, another of his films “Mah e Noor” was released and Sohail Asghar’s performance was also highly praised.



Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain offered his condolences on Saturday at the death of artist Sohail Asghar, who died in Lahore on Saturday following a long illness.

The news of Sohail Asghar’s passing has saddened the whole nation, Fawad said in his condolence message.

He said Sohail displayed memorable acting skills as a stage and television actor. Asghar’s passing is a great loss for the showbiz industry.
